THE ISSUE

To build a Virtual Reality Studio equipped to help design the Chuquicamata open pit mine’s transition to underground caving.

    THE SOLUTION

Virtual Reality in the mineral industry integrates multi-dimensional data with multi-disciplinary teams to increase both communication and information discovery. Codelco Norte division has contracted Objectivity/CEMI to commission a Virtual Reality Studio to assist in the design of Chuquicamata. The facility will use large scale stereoscopic projection technology to improve both communication and risk mitigation as part of the underground mine design review process. The system will allow geological, geotechnical and mine production personnel to work more effectively together to meet the challenges of transitioning one of the largest open pits in the world to underground operations.
