CEMI – the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation is a national not-for-profit organization that directs and coordinates step-change innovation in the areas of exploration, deep mining, integrated mine engineering, underground mine construction and environment and sustainability for the metal mining industry. CEMI engages in cross-sector collaboration with Canadian and global mining companies, universities & colleges, governments and innovative SMEs within the service and supply sector. With a seasoned team of program directors, CEMI identifies, assesses and manages industry-focused applied research and business-led programs such as the Ultra-Deep Mining Network (UDMN).

    The Role

    The purpose of the Commercialization Program Coordinator is to provide business assessment, advice, training, program development, and high impact/high value support that enables learning and growth for innovative Canadian mining service and supply companies. The Coordinator is responsible for promoting, organizing and coordinating commercialization assessments, training, and skill development services to Canadian small to medium enterprises (SMEs). This is a contract position with an end date of June 2018.

    The Responsibilities

    ➢ Assist the Commercialization Program Director to track, measure and assess the gaps to commercialization for innovative SME mining service and supply companies
    ➢ Attend meetings to assist with the determination of commercialization requirements for clients
    ➢ Engage SMEs and partners across Northern Ontario, virtually and in person
    ➢ Assist in the preparation and documentation of commercialization path activities
    ➢ Use project management and customer relationship management tools to monitor efforts
    ➢ Effectively and accurately communicate relevant project information internally and externally
    ➢ Collaborate within all themes of CEMI as related to commercialization and innovation initiatives
    ➢ Be knowledgeable about technical issues and innovative technologies for the mining industry
    ➢ Assist and educate the SME community with best business practices to successfully commercialize mining innovations
    ➢ Track progress and provide reporting on activities as required both internally and for external or contractual purposes

    Qualifications and Skills

    ➢ Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in business administration
    ➢ 5+ years of relevant business experience; mining industry experience and/or a demonstrated passion for innovation
    ➢ Demonstrated ability to spearhead campaigns in dynamic environments while collaborating effectively
    ➢ Ability to think strategically, execute effectively, and deliver high quality work against deadlines
    ➢ Display of problem-solving with strategic and analytical capabilities
    ➢ Skilled communicator with strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills (bilingualism is an asset)
    ➢ Experienced with a variety of software tools
