Nick Gardner
Manager of Mining Engineering, Vale Base Metals
Nick is a professional mining engineer, mineral economist and computer programmer with over 15 years of experience in both open pit and underground mining. He has worked as a consultant and in mine operations as well. He has been involved in various Due Diligence, Preliminary Economic Assessment, Scoping, Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility studies for many mining companies ranging from Newmont, Vale, Arcelor Mittal, and Kinross etc. He has worked in operations for the likes of AngloGold Ashanti, Newmont, Teck Resources, Rio Tinto and Kinross Gold Corporation. Nick has worked and gained exposure to a wide range of commodities including coal, alluvial diamonds kimberlite diamonds, bauxite, iron ore, copper, gold and nickel.
Besides his mining engineering background, he is also a tech-savvy with skills in computer programming and proficient in Qt C++, Python and Visual Basic.Net. He has a bachelor’s degree in Mining from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology School of Mines, Kumasi, Ghana and master’s degree in Mining Engineering (Mineral Economics) from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
He is currently the manager for Mining Engineering, Technology & Innovation for Vale Base Metals globally and based out of Vale Mississauga office.
