Hexagon’s Mining division announced that it has signed a five-year technology partnership agreement with Ellatzite-Med, the largest company in Bulgaria’s Geotechmin Group. The seven-figure deal will supply the company with HxGN MinePlan software and services.

Ellatzite-Med AD is one of the largest copper mining companies in Bulgaria, dealing mainly with extraction and processing of copper porphyry gold-bearing ores from Ellatzite openpit mine located near the town of Etropole, 80 km east of the capital, Sofia.

The HxGN MinePlan portfolio is built on technology proven in mines worldwide for almost 50 years. It comprises solutions for exploration, geology, engineering, planning and production. Product integration is important to Ellatzite-Med, said Selçuk Akinci, EMEA senior territory manager for Hexagon’s Mining division.

“Ellatzite-Med knows that productive mines depend on proven solutions that standardize workflows, ensure accountability and improve collaboration,” said Akinci. “Today’s deal means our partner has one, fully integrated and comprehensive system. They can manage their data without any transfers or conversion issues. Plus, they can count on outstanding support from our services’ department.”

“We constantly work towards the implementation and use of modern technologies and mine planning techniques in order to ensure efficient development of our company and in particular, mining processes,” said M.Eng. Ivaylo Nikolov, director of Ellatzite Mine Complex.

“Modernization and investment for the digitalization process of the mine complex are one of our top priorities. The integration of Hexagon’s software MinePlan 3D is yet another step towards the development of the mine complex into an upscale technology company.”

Hexagon is a global leader in sensor, software and autonomous solutions.

Hexagon’s Mining division solves surface and underground mine challenges with proven technologies for planning, operations and safety.
Hexagon has approximately 20,000 employees in 50 countries and net sales of approximately US$4.3 billion.

Ellatzite-Med conducts its activities on the territory of two mine sites – a mine complex and a flotation complex. The extracted ore is transported from the openpit mine located near the town of Etropole to the Flotation Complex in Mirkovo village on a 6.5 km underground rubber conveyor belt under the ridge of Stara Planina Mountain.

Over the years, various programs have been elaborated for ensuring the company’s long-term operation and for improving the financial and technical parameters of copper ore extraction and processing. The Ellatzite Mine ranks among the top copper-producing companies with the largest production capacities in Europe.
