    Sudbury, Ontario, Canada: The Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) is pleased to invite you to the first annual Northern Ontario Deep Mining Ecosystem Development Workshop. The workshop is a one day event that is modelled after the experiences that CEMI has gathered over the last 11 years including the Ultra Deep Mining Network (UDMN). CEMI has gathered further insight into the requirements of deep mining with its preparation for the second round of Deep Mining Network funding. This workshop will help gather the content that will allow CEMI to seek further private and public support to address Deep Mining challenges. As this is our inaugural one-day workshop we would like to invite participants from the following sectors of the Northern Ontario mining ecosystem:

    • Mine operating company representatives
    • Subject matter experts
    • Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs)
    • Start-Ups and Innovators
    • Research Institutions
    • Miners

    The Workshop will address the following themes:

    Intensity of Mine Production – higher production, higher ore value, lower cost
    Moderated by Samantha Espley, Director, Mining Technology & Innovation, Vale Base Metals

    Energy Consumption – reducing the total amount of energy consumed
    Moderated by Dean Millar, Presient / CEO, Electrale Innovation Ltd

    Integration of Digital Technologies and Automation
    Moderated by Kevin McAuley, Director of Sustainability, Technical Services & Innovation at Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations – A Glencore Company

    The purpose of the workshop is to:

    • Network;
    • Share challenges;
    • Inspire the development of new solutions;
    • Offer solutions under the topics relevant to deep mining, and
    • Encourage Business to Business interaction.

    Additionally, the workshop will serve the purpose of informing the content that will be used to frame the CEMI led “Future of Deep Mining Conference” that will be held in Toronto September 19-20, 2019 (Please save the date for this conference). For more information on the “Future of Deep Mining Conference” please contact us via info@cemi.ca.

    About CEMI

    CEMI’s objective is to help the mining sector achieve step-change improvement in performance by accelerating the adoption of innovations in mines and by increasing the innovation capacity of the mining service companies that deliver techniques and technologies to the industry.  There is no shortage of good ideas, or partially developed solutions to the very real problems that confront mining operations, but the process of converting these into commercially viable products and services that mining companies can adopt, is slow and difficult. The need for mines to achieve step-change improvement in operational performance is urgent and we are finding ways to make this happen more quickly and efficiently.

    We focus on:

    • Accelerating the commercialization of technical solutions to be market ready — Viable Products & Services
    • Managing networks of technical solution providers and innovative SMEs — Sector Collaboration
    • Systematically target issues relevant to the global mining industry as well as regional and national ones — SME Export Market
    • Searching globally for solutions to locally critical operational bottleneck — Industry-Identified Priorities
